Adam Farkas is the Chief Executive Officer of AFME. He joined the Association in February 2020 and is responsible for shaping its overall strategy, leading the formulation of policy positions of the industry on European regulatory issues, and managing AFME’s daily operations. Adam was also appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA) in March 2022, coordinating industry views on key global regulatory issues. Adam also sits on the Board of TheCityUK, an industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services. He also serves as a member of the Global Markets Advisory Committee of the US Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Before joining AFME, Adam was the Executive Director of the European Banking Authority (EBA) from April 2011 until the end of January 2020 where he managed the organisation’s daily operations and led the implementation of its regulatory work programme. Between 2011 and 2019, he represented the EBA on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.
Prior to joining the EBA, he acted as the Executive Chairman of the Hungarian Financial Supervisory Authority from 2009 to 2010 where he spearheaded the Authority’s response to the financial crisis. His other previous positions include CEO for Allianz Bank from 2006 until 2009 and co-CEO of CIB Bank (Intesa Sanpaolo Group) between 2002 and 2005. Between 1997 and 2001, he was Managing Director and Member of the Board at the National Bank of Hungary. Adam started his career as an Assistant Professor at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences (subsequently renamed Corvinus University of Budapest). He was also a consultant to various financial institutions in Budapest and London, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) between 1991-1997. Adam holds a doctorate degree in Finance from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences, and a Master’s in computer-based simulation and modelling from Sunderland University in the UK.

Barney is CEO and founder of the ValueExchange – a global market research house that specialises in helping to make the case for meaningful transformation in the world’s capital markets.

Working with an international team of experts, Barney’s attention is focused on delivering actionable, statistical insights on key market dynamics – with an emphasis on digitisation, post-trade processing, asset servicing innovation and on supporting growth in key emerging markets.

Throughout Barney’s career, he has focused on market structure and connectivity as a key theme. Having been intimately involved in the design and launch of the Hong Kong – China Connect programmes, he has since worked with regulators, global exchanges, clearing houses, brokers and investors to ensure that new technologies (such as DLT, AI and others) can be smoothly deployed as players reach for ever improving levels of efficiency.

Prior to the ValueExchange, Barney worked for over 20 years in the post-trade capital markets space. Until 2018, he led Standard Chartered Bank’s custody business in Asia and prior to that he launched BNP Paribas’ custody business in Asia.

Emmanuelle Riess is currently responsible of the US Custody Product Management, taking care of the Custody offer to institutional and financial intermediary, asset managers, asset owners and alternative funds for Americas.

Prior to this, Emmanuelle was Head of the Regional Network Management team for the Americas.

Emmanuelle joined BNP Paribas in Paris in 2001, as head of an account management team in charge of Institutional investors clients. In 2002, Emmanuelle moved to the Global Network Management team in charge the relation ship with our sub-custodians including being the Global Network Manager responsible for Clearstream and Euroclear. In 2010, Emmanuelle move to BNP Paribas New York, USA to implement the Regional Network Management team for the Americas as part of the launch of BNP Paribas US custody platform. In 2016, Emmanuelle move to a new position as responsible for the Custody product for the FI&C client line.

John Abel serves as Executive Director of Clearance & Settlement Product Management at DTCC where he is responsible for managing DTCC’s Equity Clearance & Settlement business units. Within his role, John identifies, evaluates and develops strategic business opportunities to deliver new and increased value to the securities industry. John is responsible for leading many industry initiatives including shortening the standard US settlement cycle and the development of a DLT-based production equity clearance and settlement platform.

John began his career at DTCC in 1987 and has over 35 years experience in the financial services industry. He has held a number of operational related positions across the organization including positions in Corporate Actions, Underwriting and Settlement. In addition, John has extensive clearance and settlement product management experience holding key domestic and international clearance and settlement product management positions.

Pete Tomlinson is a Director in AFME’s Post Trade division, with additional responsibility for the Prime Services Forum. In his role, he primarily supports AFME members with the implementation of post-trade regulatory changes. Prior to joining AFME, Pete worked at Deutsche Bank for seven years in various middle office roles within the Delta One business. He holds a degree in financial economics from the University of Liverpool.

Sachin Mohindra has over 18 years of extensive experience at Goldman Sachs, where he has held a variety of cross-product post-trade roles including securities settlement, client middle office and post-trade business development. Sachin currently works in the Client and Market Solutions team at Goldman Sachs with a focus on global post-trade efficiency, regulatory strategy and accelerated settlement. Sachin is the co-chair of the AFME Post-Trade Transaction, Clearing & Settlement Committee and AFME Market Settlement Efficiency Taskforce. Sachin is an active member of the UK HMT T+1 Taskforce and SIFMA T+1 working group. At AFME he has co-authored the T+1 Settlement in Europe paper, lead the publication of the industry-wide TARGET2-Securities (T2S) and Partial Settlements recommendation papers. Sachin holds an Honours degree in Computer Science and Management from the University of Edinburgh.
